Joe Webb’s collages apply a basic rule of sourcing just two elements which are carefully juxtaposed. The challenge is to manipulate the imagery to convey a new message or idea.
In the piece ‘Antares and Love II’ we are challenged to decide if the cosmic silhouette is a perfect dreamlike ‘significant other’, or a more sinister nightmarish apparition. Webb’s editing propels this supposedly idyllic 1950’s imagery into a sense of uncertain disquiet.
‘Antares and Love II’ has been displayed in the Saatchi Gallery after the work was entered into the Saatchi Online ‘Showdown’ competition. These limited edition Giclee prints are available with a screen printed varnished printed by hand, which highlights the enigmatic silhouette.
